Sorry I just saw this comment but the C919’s engines are actually manufactured by CFM International, a French/American company, so while the Chinese may have plans to develop their own jet engines domestically at some point, the C919 will be powered by foreign engines for the foreseeable future. According to Wikipedia, CFM actually provided COMAC with a nerfed version of its LEAP engine due to fears that the Chinese would use it in military applications.
Thanks. The manufacture of commercial jet engines is among the most challenging. I wonder if/when China will be forced into making their own, and how quickly it might be able to develop a competitive engine.
